Salvaging

CareerSkill TypePrerequisitesSP Cost

Characters skilled in salvaging are able to take apart Equipment for components.

The salvaging skill allows characters to take apart Tier III and above Items to recover some of their constituent Items. This should be registered with a crafting referee, and then suitable roleplay performed. Salvaging does not guarantee the full consituent Items to be returned.

Improvised Crafting

Engineer ICrafting3
Characters practised in improvisation can often find alternative ways to make things.

Improvised crafting allows characters to cobble together Items, deviating from a standard known Blueprint. The character must know a Blueprint for that Item to use this skill.

Rapid Repair

Characters with the Rapid Repair skill can provide temporary, on-the-go fixes.

After 60 seconds of role play, the Rapid Repair skill allows for a temporary repair of a Weapon, Armour or Equipment Item. This may hold for a limited amount of time (i.e. to allow such repaired object to function for a single further use, or for one hour), after which time it must be properly repaired (ie. it cannot be rapid repaired again before being fully repaired).

Rapid Repair has the following effect on Item types:
– Weapons – Repaired for 1 Hour
– Armour – Repaired for 3 hits
– Equipment – Repaired for One Usage

Note that Weapon repairs provided by this skill are equivalent to those for Armourer, and the repairs from the two skills cannot be stacked (ie. a Weapon repaired by Armourer cannot then be field-repaired again by Rapid Repair).

Engineering Analysis

Engineer ILore3
Characters skilled in Engineering Analysis are able to analyse manufactured Items to identify information about them.

After spending some time roleplaying with an Item, a character with the Engineering Analysis skill may refer to a referee to find out more about what an Item might be made from, who might have made it, when/where it was made or other information about the Item.

Reverse Engineering

Characters practised in Reverse Engineering are able to work out how something was made and reproduce it.

The Reverse Engineering skill allows characters to invent Blueprints for existing Items that they have in their possession – this is typically much faster than inventing something from scratch. As per the normal Invention rules, the character should register the intent to perform Invention with a crafting referee. The Reverse Engineering skill effectively removes the Theory step.

Engineering Insight

CareerSkill TypePrerequisitesSP Cost
Engineer ILore2
Characters with the Engineering Insight skill have some innate understanding of how things are made and operate.

With a few moments of thought, a character with Engineering Insight can Ask a Ref a question, or pose a hypothesis relating to Engineering. This might be how an Item works, what might be needed to repair it or what sorts of Items a component resource could be used to make.

Fabrication

CareerSkill TypePrerequisitesSP Cost
Engineer ICrafting3
Characters with the Fabrication skill are able to use the Fabricator Machine, enabling crafting of a variety of standard Blueprints.

The Fabrication skill is a pre-requisite for more specialist crafting skills.

Explosives

Engineer ICrafting3
Characters with the Explosives skill have access to knowledge and crafting Blueprints related to Explosives.

Robotics

Spacecraft Tech

CareerSkill TypePrerequisitesSP Cost
Engineer IILore3
Characters with the Spacecraft Tech skill have access to knowledge related to Spacecraft Technology. This includes knowledge of how various spacecraft systems operate, and how to maintain and repair them.

Hacking

CareerSkill TypePrerequisitesSP Cost
Engineer IIMechanic5
Characters with the Hacking skill have access to knowledge related to computer systems technology, and how to hack into computer systems.

The Hacking skill allows characters to interact with locked computer systems. After performing suitable roleplay, a character with the Hacking skill may Ask a Ref about what the computer system may control, or information contained within.
