The following is a list of Effect Calls used within the Drift system and their meaning. The calls may be used by both NPCs and players, when provided by means of equipment, skills or other abilities.

The use of calls should be made loud and clear with the call keyword. Keywords may be paired together in some instances, eg. MASS DRAIN.

  • SHOCK:
    • This call stuns the target in place for 5 seconds. They may not move, talk, or take other actions (eg. reloading).
  • DRAIN:
    • If the target has equipment that has charges, all of these are reduced to zero hits.
    • This includes Weapons, Wearables, Equipment and Cybernetics.
    • This effect does not apply to Charge Cells and other equipment which provide recharges.
  • REND:
    • Damages whatever it hits:
      • If the target blocks this with a Shield, the Shield is damaged and cannot be used.
      • Otherwise, if the target has an Energy Field, this is reduced to zero hits and is damaged.
      • Otherwise, if the target has Kinetic Armour, this is reduced to zero hits.
    • Alternatively, if this call is made at a specific piece of equipment, this equipment is damaged and cannot be used.
  • THROUGH:
    • Ignores personal fields and armour.
    • THROUGH is blocked by shields.
  • FATAL:
    • Reduces the target to zero hits, putting them in a Critical State.
    • FATAL ignores armour, shields and any other damage mitigation.
  • FORCE:
    • Knocks back, or down, the target, who should not return to a combat stance for 5 seconds.
  • BLAST:
    • Deals 2 points of Kinetic Damage.
    • Typically used for explosives.
  • RESIST:
    • A character may use a RESIST call to ignore a single weapon strike (and any associated calls), or another single call.
    • RESIST does not ignore FATAL.
  • HIDDEN:
    • A character in the HIDDEN state is generally undetectable to other characters.
    • Instead of a vocal, raise one hand in a closed fist to indicate HIDDEN.
    • Obvious and open movements and actions (eg. striking someone with a weapon) may alert characters in the immediate vicinity.
  • MASS (x):
    • Effects all characters within 3 metre radius of the target.
    • Typically used for grenades or similar explosives.
  • DETECT (X):
    • A character using the DETECT call reveals the presence and location of (X) within a 10m radius.
    • Specific rules for players:
      • DETECT LIFEFORMS reveals the presence of living things within 10m, even if HIDDEN.
      • If revealed by DETECT, player characters must clearly indicate their presence to the caller.
