Hailing from the planet Earth, humanity is a highly influential member of the Federation. As the species responsible for the invention and subsequent sharing of the Drift Drive, humanity enabled the establishment of the galactic community that later spawned the Federation.

Amongst the federation, Humans are often recognised as resilient, adaptable and culturally diverse. They can be found throughout the galaxy, in all manner of positions; from dock-workers in the outer colonies, to corporation executives.

Earth

Earth stands as the political, cultural, and symbolic core of the Federation, the cradle from which its authority and ideology first spread. The Federation’s rise is inseparable from the alliance between humanity and the Ka’hetians – an ancient, long-hidden influence that began in 2275 BC, when Ka’hetian intervention subtly guided early human civilization. Through periods of collapse and renewal, their influence steered humanity toward repeated ages of technological and societal prosperity, laying the foundation for a species uniquely prepared to expand beyond its homeworld.

Humanities first reaches beyond the Sol system however, would not be without conflict. 44 cycles BD, four Ka’hetian colony ships would arrive in the system, signaled 6 millenia earlier by the arrival of the colony ship Qi’sa, buried beneath modern-day Giza, Egypt. This would be the catalyst for the political and militarial divide of the Sol system, in what would be later referred to as ‘The Fracture of Sol’. It would be almost 50 cycles before its conclusion, when the remnants of the Crimson Accord would be ousted from the system in a generation ship, with destination unknown.

When humanity finally reached beyond the local systems with the creation of the Drift Drive in 2225 AD, it did so with Ka’hetian knowledge and support, forging a unified expansion unmatched in speed or scale. The invention of the Drift Drive marked the beginning of a new era of prosperity and expansion; “The Golden Age”. Entire sectors were claimed without meaningful opposition, and the Federation grew accustomed to uncontested expansion, its fleets and influence bringing peace and prosperity to those that joined or partnered with the Federation. When humanity encountered the Muraak, under siege from the Kalithin Dominion, it sought to free the Muraak through its will; political at first, then militarial.

For two centuries, Earth and the Core Worlds existed at the center of an uncontested empire, shaping galactic order, enlightening and uplifting intelligent species that were encountered.

That era has ended. The synthetic crisis and the secession of the outer colonies to the UIC, has forced the Federation into a defensive posture for the first time since the Dominion War. Core worlds once considered untouchable, now fortified. Fleets once used for exploration, now patrol. Earth, long the heart of an expanding power, now anchors a civilization fighting to preserve what it has built.

Culture

Earth’s cultural identity has long been defined by acceptance. Shaped by millennia of migration, conflict, reconciliation, and shared survival, humanity developed a deep-rooted tolerance for difference long before it reached the stars. This cultural flexibility became one of Earth’s greatest strengths, allowing diverse peoples, philosophies, and traditions to coexist under a common social framework rather than being forced into uniformity.

Over time, this philosophy of acceptance expanded beyond species and culture into belief itself. Humanity grew increasingly respectful of differing religions, spiritual practices, and ideological systems, viewing them not as sources of division but as expressions of shared curiosity and meaning. By the present day, Earth is home to hundreds of belief systems, ancient religions, modern philosophies, syncretic faiths, and entirely new spiritual movements, all existing side by side.

Though disagreements still arise, Earth’s cultural norm emphasizes coexistence over conflict. Mutual respect is not merely encouraged but expected, forming the social backbone of the Federation’s Core World. In a galaxy fractured by ideology and war, Earth stands as a rare example of unity through diversity, a world where belief is personal, difference is normalized, and harmony is upheld as a collective responsibility.
