Player Charter

Players. Without players to prod and poke at everything, Drift is just a whole load of words, spreadsheets and enough lammies to drown in.

Our game is an 18+ sci-fi LARP with horror elements. We expect there to be swearing and mature topics. With this in mind, we expect players to be pushed to their limits, considering the ethical ramifications of their actions. We therefore have a variety of expectations online and at our events.

Our Expectations of Players

  • We want you to take risks at events – “Mess Around And Find Out” – but remember, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Be prepared to react accordingly.
  • Tone is the key to immersion – we ask that you maintain the appropriate tone for the setting. There will be comical and fun moments, but the overall event theme is hard sci-fi with some horror elements.
  • We expect all players to remain in character in the live areas of the game – please refrain from OC conversation. There will be both IC and OC camping, so please use these spaces accordingly.
  • Players will have the freedom to create their own character within our living world – we expect you to build a character that meets the setting and world briefs. Anything outside of that must be discussed with the Game Team prior to any event (for more, see our Character Creation).
  • Crew are there to facilitate your game, but are attendees at the event just as you are. Please interact with them respectfully, and OC ask their consent if you are going to discuss any triggering topics. Respect the response of “no”.
  • Consent for physical contact must be given each time – for example grappling/carrying.
    • This includes both players and crew! Just because someone is in a big monster costume, does not automatically mean they have provided consent to be grabbed or tackled!
  • We are not a dry event, but we expect those fighting to have full control of their actions.
  • Drift is intended to be a “collaborative” system. Player characters will face shared predicaments and will need to work together to ensure their survival – although may have differing goals, methods or views. Whilst player-versus-player behaviours and actions are not encouraged, they are not expressly forbidden. However, gameplay that is deliberately or unnecessarily destructive to other player experiences will be considered as against the player charter, and managed accordingly.
  • Honesty. LARP is built on trust, and Drift relies heavily on the honesty of its players. If in doubt about a mechanic, you feel like you made a mistake, or you’re just not sure of something – come and talk to us.
  • If an attendee has concerns, we expect you to take it up privately, at an appropriate time, with the most appropriate person:
    • For conduct of other attendees (including crew or players), this should be taken up with a referee.
    • For game operation or similar concerns, this should be taken up with a member of game team.

Depending on the urgency of the concern, you may be referred to someone else, or asked to come back later. This isn’t because we don’t want to address the concern, but a simple case of prioritising the core operation of the game and the wellbeing of our game team, referees and crew.
