Araksa

The Araksa are a highly intelligent, and focused member species of the federation. Owing to their relatively short life-spans (typically 20-30 standard Federation cycles), Araksa society heavily revolves around direct contributions to society, and many Araksa dedicate their lives to the pursuit of noble causes, early in their lives.

Inquisitive and extremely direct in nature, Araksa are often found in positions of some of the most distinguished scientists, engineers and medical professionals.

Araksa are insectoid in appearance, often sporting antenna, large or multiple eyes, and other features that make them highly adapted to the diverse environments across Arak. In particular, some Araksa have developed extremely hardened carapaces, which make them exceedingly resilient combatants.

Species Perk:
Araksa have heightened awareness of their surroundings, and have an innate unconscious sense of safety and danger.
Araksa characters may get advanced warning of impending danger, and may Ask a Ref if they feel something might be dangerous. Note that the answer will be a ‘sense’ and accuracy under all circumstances is not guaranteed.

Arak

Arak is a planet of remarkable ecological diversity, shaped by shifting climates, vast micro-biomes, and evolutionary challenges that demand rapid adaptation from its native species. From shimmering crystal deserts to dense, humid fungal jungles, Arak’s environments change dramatically within short distances, fostering a world in constant flux. It is within this dynamic setting that the Araksa emerged – quick-lived, hyper-adaptable insectoid beings evolved to respond swiftly and efficiently to every natural upheaval.

Arak’s architecture and societal structure reflect their biological diversity. Some Araksa subspecies evolved near volcanic regions with hardened carapaces capable of resisting extreme temperatures; others emerged from forest canopies with gliding membranes or enhanced visual organs suited for low light. Their cities celebrate this variety through complex habitats – vertical chambers, suspended walkways, subterranean hives and crystalline spires adapted to the needs of different clades living in harmony. Rather than homogenize, the Araksa embrace specialisation as a cornerstone of societal strength.

Culture

The short lifespan of the Araksa dictates the tempo of their society. With only two to three decades to live, they developed a culture that rejects hesitation or wasted opportunity. Every Araksa, from the moment they complete their earliest metamorphic stage, is encouraged to choose a path of service or intellectual pursuit. Rather than rush them, this brief existence instills clarity; life is not measured in its length, but in the significance of its contributions. As a result, Araksa civilization is extraordinarily industrious, driven by individuals who often achieve mastery in their chosen fields while other species are still in early education.

Araksa nature is one of curiosity shaped by necessity. Their antennae, multi-faceted eyes and diverse biological variants through various subspecies grant them heightened sensory perception, allowing them to process information quickly and accurately. This innate awareness when combined with their cultural emphasis on direct communication renders them exceptional scientists, engineers, medical innovators and strategic thinkers. In research hubs across the Federation, Araksa are often found at the forefront of discovery.

Despite their prodigious intellectual output, Araksa also maintain deep respect for legacy. Their ancestors’ achievements are preserved in sprawling archives known as memory vaults, which lie in the heart of the capital Kethvar Prime. These memory vaults record and protect every notable scientific breakthrough, heroic sacrifice, and cultural milestones for future generations.

Owing to their insectoid instincts and ability to recognise one another through pheromones and scent glands, Araksa do not depend on names to identify one another. However the Araksa recognise the need to promote cooperation with other species who lack such features and so often assume nicknames typically given to them by crew-mates or other close friends and colleagues. These nicknames often reflect physical or personal traits; Buzz, Shellhead, Pebble, Stilts.
